So it’s officially summer and that means easy no-brainer outfits like this embroidered shirt dress and boots, eating less rubbish (fear of the wobble and all that) and looking like I’m wearing less make-up. Of course the reality is I’m eating more chips than ever and it takes me twice as long to apply the ‘it’s not really there‘ make-up but anyway…
It’s been getting seriously hot here in Switzerland (yes I’m complaining about 30 degree weather), which doesn’t always put me in the best mood when I’m trying to get dressed. So for the sake of my sanity I’m applying a formula to help with outfit selection…
1) I’m sticking to my core colours of blue and white and a side of pink, red or tan. My advice is find out what your colours are and work from a capsule wardrobe of only these 3-4 complimentary shades;
2) Add texture to plain outfits with stripes and florals; and
3) Keep outfits combinations as simple as possible with 2 to 3 key pieces, like a dress and boots or a skirt, slogan tee and flats. Keep jewelery to a minimum or go for fine, layered pieces.
You’ve probably noticed from the blog recently that I’ve been falling for shirt dresses in a big way. I found this embroidered shirt dress in New Look when I was on the hunt for a white one. I just couldn’t say no to this striped version, the beautiful sleeve details completely won me over. What do you think of it?
I’m wearing the dress with my Balenciaga dupe boots that I got from Jessica Buurman online last year for $159. I got them to see if I suited the cut-out boot style, you know in advance of paying €1,000 for the originals! I was worried they would look / feel too heavy but I have to say they really don’t. Plus they go with pretty much everything in my closet. I wear them with jeans, skirts and dresses, they just work! They’re one of my favourite pairs of boots and I would definitely consider getting ‘the real thing’. I just need to start saving…
I’ve put links below to everything I’m wearing except this shirt dress which for some reason isn’t available from New Look online yet?! I’ll update the link as soon as it’s available. For an alternative dress that is so so similar and links to everything else just keep scrolling.
Oh and don’t forget to check out how I styled my new white shirt dress here.
Thanks for dropping by, J xx
