Let’s talk about the ‘IT’ denim look of the season, straight leg jeans. I’m a seasonal denim wearer – skinny jeans in the cooler months with ankle, biker and knee high boots, and boyfriend and girlfriend cut jeans with flats in spring and summer. When I started rummaging through my wardrobe for straight leg jeans and couldn’t find any (the horror) I realised that I’ve been neglecting the straight style of late.
A vintage jean is usually best but the Levi’s store is the next best thing if you’re looking for a fresh pair. So when I was in Paris with my other half I popped into Levi’s in St Germain to get a pair of straight cut denim. I didn’t want the ‘Mom’ jean, I’m not convinced that style is for me so I left with a pair of classic 714 straight cut jeans in a dark blue / indigo shade.
The 714 silhouette is slim through the hip and thigh and sits on the waist giving shape and lift. We all need a little lift now and then, right? I have quite long legs and usually have to wear a 34 inch length with heels so was delighted that the 32 inch leg had enough material for a higher heel. They also offer the perfect opportunity for a cuff /turn-up, a key trend this season. For a recent weekend to Strasbourg, involving an evening spent in the reception of a Holiday Inn Express eating pizza (don’t ask), I wore my Levi’s 714 jeans with stacked heel boots, simple black shirt and a camel duster coat.
I don’t plan on ditching my skinnies any time soon, but I’m happy to welcome straight leg jeans back into the denim drawer.
