It’s noisy, has a shine that could rival a solar flare and is probably a bit risqué for some but if there’s one trend I’m LOVING this winter it’s vinyl. I had my eye on this vinyl coat for a while but wasn’t sure if it would suit or if the fabric would annoy me (it’s quite squeaky). But I decided to bite the bullet before Christmas and order it. So glad I did!
As far as I’m concerned, trench coats are perfect any time of year and can make even a basic jeans and tee combo look polished. I knew this slick navy coat would be a great addition and so far it has delivered on all it’s plastic promises. Plus I’ve noticed it getting a lot of admiring looks on the street (there’s something Matrix-esque about this coat that makes you smile).
My top tips for wearing vinyl…
- Start off with something easy, like shoes or a baker boy hat. If you can wear it as an accessory you can move on to the good stuff!
- Swap a regular piece in your wardrobe for something vinyl, like trousers. I got this pair of vinyl trousers in the sale last month. I’ve been so surprised at how easy they are to wear and style. They look amazing dressed up with a shirt and sandals, with a chunky knit and sock boots or with a tee, white kicks and teddy coat. So so versatile. Aside from my faux leather trousers they’re already one of the most hard working pieces in my wardrobe!
- Opposites attract so play up the textures. I love the contrast of these floral satin trousers against the vinyl coat and suede boots.
- If you don’t want your vinyl to stand out too much go for a subtle colour like black or navy. Wear with similar shades and tones or go for colour blocking.
What do you think about this look? Are you a fan of vinyl?
