There’s a time to switch up your style and try different looks and for me date night is definitely one of them. This is one of my favorite looks and a great alternative to the obvious ‘dress and heels’ combo we all reach for!
You remember I picked up these Kelly Love shorts at the start of the summer. I am so in love with them! I’ve been wearing them any chance I can get and they were one of my first options when I started plotting my no dress date outfit.
As spending goes these shorts were definitely an ‘investment’ purchase for me. When I first tried them on I didn’t buy them there and then but as I handed them back I left the store obsessing about them. Between the soft blush shade of pink (a very girlie colour for me) and the smooth as butter texture I knew they had to be mine!
What do think of this alternative date night look? Also who else is into pastels right now?!
It’s not spending if it’s an investment, right?
I’m on career break right now so I really think hard about my purchases, especially when they’re over a certain limit. When I hand over the card I have to be totally happy it’s the right thing and I’m 100% sure.
Here are my 3 rules for deciding on those critical purchases:
- I can’t stop thinking about it – it’s on my mind constantly and I have that sense of panic I’ve missed out on the sale of my life. I don’t do regrets as a rule, so if I’m missing something I don’t even have, I have to act on it!
- I can think of 3 ways to wear it, in different situations. I start with planning a casual look (how would it look with my favorite denim or with jogger trousers for a sports luxe vibe?), then I’ll think how would I wear it to work (does it go with a blazer, skirt and trousers I already have? Does it fit with my usual colour scheme of blue, grey, black and white ) and then dressed up / for an occasion (do I have the accessories to make a complete outfit?).
- I want to wear it now even if it’s not the right season!
This is the third look I’ve put together with these amazing shorts, remember how I wore them with the purple crinkly Claudia Nabholz top and lace-up sandals (here) and the chunky sweater and loafers for a bloggers catch-up at the beach (here). If we’re talking cost per wear, these shorts are proving to be one of my more savvier purchases. Ok, I may be a little smug about that!
