I’ve been on the hunt for a silky satin maxi skirt for absolute ages and finally, finally got my hands on one this week. It’s by Halston Heritage, it’s navy (Storm Blue if you’re picky about it) and I found it on The Outnet for a steal – £132 down from £265. This isn’t a sponsored post by the way I just really like the site for designer bargains.
I wanted a maxi skirt for Autumn to mix things up (anyone else get bored of they own clothes?). I feel like I’m in jeans all the time, which is great, but it gets boring. The great thing about a maxi skirt is you can wear it casually with trainers or dress it up with heels or boots. Add a chunky knit, a crisp white shirt, hoodie or cami and you’re good to go.
I mentioned Life Update in the title of this post because it’s been ages since we had a proper catch up. So my first bit of news is I’m going back to work in the very near future. I’m currently ironing out the details. It will be part-time initially and then we’ll see.
You know I actually can’t believe I’ve been at home with the kids for the past 4 years. I’ve always worked and am quite ambitious. I never thought I would want to be a stay-at-home mum but it suited when we lived in Switzerland and the kids were tiny. Christian was only a baby and Malin was in creche then school.
Now they’re both in school or creche so it feels like the right time to get back to corporate life. Having my own income is also a major benefit (obviously!) and being with other adults in general. I won’t lie, I am a bit apprehensive about it – not about me working, I know I’ll enjoy it, I just worry about the kids. I hope they’ll be ok with longer days in childcare centres and I hope they don’t feel abandoned all of a sudden.
Also, I’m trying to make peace with my hair! For some reason it’s in the worst state ever, it’s dry and drab and flat. So depressing. I’ve been doing more hair treatments and intensive conditioners at home to try and bring it back to life and last Friday I went to my hairdresser Sophie at Peter Mark for a cut and a chat about the condition and colour.
Colour wise we did an all-over toner and a Smart Bond treatment so now it’s a dirty ashy blonde. Next month we’re going to do balayage instead of all over highlights so that’ll cut down on bleaching. For the condition Sophie recommended this Kerastase Bain Therapiste Shampoo to rebuild my hair so I’ll let you know how I get on. I’m working on another blog post for you on the best conditioners for bleached hair so expect that on the blog this week!
Anyway back to the outfit, 3 things I love about this maxi skirt / chunky knit combo:
- The knee-high slit on the skirt is super flattering. It gives just a hint of skin plus it makes walking a lot easier.
- The dreamy textures. I mean, look at that skirt, it’s liquid gold! I love the contrast of the luxe fabric against the fluffy knit. The blue knitted jumper is new in from H&M by the way. I love their knitwear, always great colours and a decent price. This one is €22.99 and a total bargain.
- It’s versatile. It’s unique that one piece of clothing can transform itself to create so many different looks. For me that was the clincher. I have so little space in my wardrobe, everything in there has to earn its place on a hanger.
FYI – if you can, go for a midi or maxi skirt in an asymmetric cut. They always sit well and give your lower half a slim and flattering curvy shape.
I’ve picked out some more maxi skirts to get you through Autumn…
As always, thanks for dropping by! Hope you have a great week, J ♥
