Hi Christie, thanks for joining us for a chat! You’ve been blogging for some time now, right? When did you start? What made you launch your blog www.christieferrari.com
Hi! Thank you so much for having me! Excited to be here and talk a bit about the blog. It’s quite funny actually: I started putting mirror selfies on IG a long time ago (2012) and people told me I should start a blog or something. However, it took me a bit to actually go public on IG – I think it was around 2014 that I did it and began sharing my outfits. Then in January 2015, as part of a New Year’s resolution, I actually opened up ChristieFerrari.com and have been blogging since! In regards to what made me launch the blog, I’ve always loved fashion, as cliché as that might be. I considered doing it as a career, but then went in a different direction. However, I wanted a creative outlet during my residency and decided to do the blog.
You have an incredibly stylish blog and Instagram account with regular content and an army of engaged followers, plus you work as a Psychologist! How do you juggle it all?!
Thank you for the kind words 😊. So, it’s true: I am a psychologist and actually did my training at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. However, when the blog started getting really busy, I had to put psychology on hold for the time being. Not only because time wouldn’t allow me to do everything, but more importantly, I didn’t want to let any clients down.
What does your typical day look like?
A typical day begins with breakfast and a morning walk with my pup and husband. If I can, I squeeze in a quick workout in the morning as well. Then, for the most part I’m always on the go either at collection previews, events, meeting and catching up with people in the industry or styling outfits for shoots. I am usually out of the house most of the day then come back in the afternoon to change and get ready for evening events and dinners. In between all that, I try to write articles for the blog and call my mom!
How does your background and training as a Psychologist affect your approach to blogging, e.g. in managing client relationships, creating content, your personal style?
Psychology has helped me become a better communicator and allows me to better understand people, and by extension brands. I luckily have my husband working with me as well, and he helps me manage client relationships. Going through a doctorate taught me also to be very organized, so I’m very strategic and organized when it comes to creating content. What is this image trying to achieve? How does this outfit fit into my brand and aesthetic?
Where do you see the future of blogging? How have changes in social media affected the way you blog and engage with followers?
It’s such a young industry, that in a way, I wonder: Who knows! It’s ever-changing thanks to changes in algorithms and such. I think it’s important to develop a strong website that creates content that people want to read. Instagram right now is huge, but what happens if a few years from now, it no longer is. And maybe “The next network” becomes it? Then you need to move quickly and adapt to that new network and try it out. However, with a strong website, hopefully people visit it regardless of their personal social network. But for that, you need to create meaningful content that people find interesting and will seek out. I’m a firm believer also in connecting with my audience. I think of it as “if someone took a moment of their day to leave a comment on my site, or on Instagram, or on Facebook or Twitter, then I need to do everything I can to put the time to respond to them and thank them.
You’ve collaborated with some amazing brands in the past, what are your personal highlights?
I’ve had the fortune to collaborate with some of my favorites brands in the world. Sometimes, it’s a dream come true when you think that “X” amount of time ago, you were looking from outside, wondering what it would be like to work with this brand or that brand. I don’t know if I have a favorite. I’m thankful to have had the opportunity to work with many of my favorite brands, and find new ones that have become personal favorites!
Christie you always look so well put together! What do you wear on your days off when you’re not working, attending events or shooting looks?
I’m usually in gym clothes or sort of athleisure clothes, or I try to dress up. There’s no middle ground, I don’t think!
What trends will you be wearing this summer?
Off the shoulder, statement earrings, and lots of color, I am a Miami girl after all 😊
You feature amazing street style photography on your blog and Instagram. How important is photography to you as a blogger? Where do you spend more time – on writing or creating / editing pictures?
Photography is extremely important. In particular when we’re talking about Instagram – an image-driven platform. That’s why I made investments both in equipment, software and time to ensure the images are the best they could be. I think I spend more time focusing on images, editing and how the feed should look than writing. Luckily, I’m a fast writer and my husband is my editor of sorts in case I have typos and such!
Who takes your photos? What camera and lenses do you use?
You’ll have to ask the photographers I shoot with! I personally have started getting my feet wet with video, so I purchased a new Panasonic Lumix for the best 4K video.
What beauty products can you not live without?
There’s a few! La Prairie line interception power duo and serum, Laura Mercier secret camouflage, Laura Gellar highlighter, eyeliner and mascara, nude lip gloss.
Tell us something we don’t know about you.
Mmmm.. so I’m originally from Miami, so I’m actually latina and speak Spanish as well as English. My favorite dishes are sushi and pizza/pasta and I looooove champagne. 😊
What can we expect from Christie Ferrari in 2017?
I had a few goals going into 2017 and I’m hoping to deliver: First, as I mentioned above, I’ve been doing more video, so look for an official YouTube launch soon and more videos on IG. Second, I wanted to travel a bit more, which I’ve been lucky to have done in the first 6 months of the year. Third, my goal was to create more meaningful content on the site. This includes a new wellness column in which I discuss some topics close to my psychology background, such as bullying, fears, etc, plus also provide better fashion-related articles with more options for you to find the piece you’ve been looking for.
