I really should be in law enforcement or some branch of the military because I definitely have a thing for uniforms (and maybe some power issues). I love a military influence in my wardrobe and this season the trend is as chic as ever. Think French army officer as opposed to army surplus store. You remember we chatted about the military look a while ago (here). I found the most amazing jackets but couldn’t decide which one to go for. Well I put it out of my mind and stopped looking because that’s when things come to me (that’s shopping logic for you).

Anyway, I was in H&M looking for a Halloween costume for my little girl Malin when I spotted this navy and black military jacket in the women’s section on my lonnnggg walk out of the store. I absolutely love a structured jacket and this one comes with all the trimmings – high collar, shoulder epaulettes, chunky metallic buttons, almond shaped cuffs and embroidery!! Of course it was the lush velvet stripes that cemented the deal. Velvet is THE fabric of the moment and it’s hard not to love especially at this time of year.

THE LOOK

Personally speaking I think Burberry’s interpretation of military chic is untouchable. What’s even better it’s repeatable with or without the Burberry pieces (preferably with but you know…). So taking the Burberry cue I paired my military jacket with a regency style blouse. This one’s from ASOS, complete with ruffles, velvet bow and bell sleeves. I just love this shirt. To balance out the romantic look on top I added tough chunky boots on the bottom. By the way, these boots from Jessica Buurman are possibly the best Balenciaga dupes I’ve seen and come at a snip of the price of the original version. Scroll down for the link below, trust me, you need them.

Also, side note on the jacket – I’m wearing it with the lapels buttoned back but you can open up the two top buttons for a looser fit or button it up completely for a neat silhouette.

What do you think of the military trend? Love or hate?
